A Change in Perspective: NOSADE at TEDx Marrakesh

On Saturday, October 21st, 2017, speakers and artists presented a wide variety of ideas and proposals regarding the future of digitalization and how to shape it in a positive and responsible fashion at TEDx Marrakesh with the theme “Tribes & Trolls: How Digitalization Impacts our Lives”.

For more than six years now, organizers Andrea Bury, Patrick Benjaminsson, Abdelhaid Boussaadi, and Per Sjödell have been setting up this wonderful event – NOSADE was there for the second year in a row. After all, TEDx Marrakesh is an outstanding source of information and an exciting platform for exchange where new ideas are introduced that allow us to adapt our perspective, to communicate, and network.

TED – the acronym stands for technology, entertainment, and design – was founded in 1984 with the goal to promote and share great ideas. The concept behind the TED format is to create a space in which people can come together to listen to inspiring speakers (both live and via TED video) and enjoy artistic performances. Every TEDx conference follows the same basic format: 15 speakers present their ideas in individual 18 minute segments. There are generous breaks between the presentations – in Marrakesh spent in the wonderful garden of Es Saadi Marrakesch Resort Le Palace, where the audience can come together in an old fashioned and analogue way, get in contact with each other, and meet new inspiring people.

Naturally, we attend events of this kind seeking inspiration not just out of personal curiosity, but also for business purposes. There is, however, more to it. In particular after the last retreat it has become evident for us that this is about a more genuine connection: linking up with others, recognizing that so many ideas can enrich each of us individually, and that energy is created where individuals dare to show us the things closest to their hearts, as that energy means others are inspired to care and share in the experience. So many of the speakers there raised the energy in the room with their powerful presence to a level that shaped the day and encouraged all participants to dare, to show, to ask, to listen, to discuss, to connect, and to draw from this energy in order to push their ideas – big or small – and to become an inspiration themselves.
